What the check gives you

Finding the death record behind a name, not just a yes or no

Where a single indicator is not enough, for example when a common name needs resolving against a state or an estate needs the date of death, ADC Check returns the matching records from the Australian Death Check. The first and last names must match exactly and the middle names may match partially, so the match type on each record shows how close it is. This is the record-returning counterpart to Deceased Check.

The matching death records

Each match carries the first name with any middle names, the last name, the date of birth, and the date of death or, where the exact date is not held, a date range.

Which state the record belongs to

Each match carries the state, which the documentation says should be taken into account when deciding whether the record is the right person.

How well the name matched

Each match carries a name match type: exact when the whole name matched, partial when the last name matched but the first or middle names differ.

A reference to the ADC record

Each match carries the ADC reference number, so the record can be cited.

No match

No death record found

The Australian Death Check holds no record matching the name and date of birth. The list of matches is empty.

Partial

A record matched on the last name

The last name and date of birth matched but the first or middle names differ. Check the state and the names before acting.

Exact

A record matched in full

The full name and date of birth matched a death record. The date or date range of death and the ADC reference are on the record.

Your subscription is credited to your account each month and each check consumes credits from it. If you go past the included amount, further checks are charged at a per-check rate. The rate depends on the volume you commit to, so the sales team is the fastest way to find where your business lands.

Questions we get asked about ADC Check

Do we need a developer to implement this?

Yes. ADC Check is a REST endpoint that takes a JSON request and returns a JSON list of records, so a developer connects it to your screening or estate process. A sandbox with a deterministic test dataset is provided at no usage cost, so the integration can be built and tested before production keys are issued.

What does our system need to send?

The first name, the last name and the date of birth. The middle name is optional, but the documentation recommends sending the full name including middle names for the best match.

How is the name matched?

The first and last names must match exactly. The middle names may match partially: a search for John Smith, John Peter Smith or John Henry Peter Smith against a record for John Henry Smith returns a partial match, while John Henry Smith returns an exact match.

What is the difference between this and Deceased Check?

Deceased Check returns a single Y or N. ADC Check returns the matching records themselves, with the state, date or date range of death, ADC reference and name match type. The documentation also notes that ADC Check (Custodial) is served by the Deceased Check endpoint.

Where does the data come from?

The Australian Death Check service. The reference documentation does not publish a refresh cycle.

Are the names we send stored by Global Data?

Personally identifiable information sent in a request is not stored or retained unless it is needed to process that request. Query data is stripped of PII before it is kept for audit. Data in transit and at rest is encrypted, and retention follows the Australian Privacy Act and the Australian Privacy Principles. Global Data is not a credit bureau and does not create an access footprint on any record.

How many calls can we make?

The API allows 600 requests per minute by default, measured as a rolling average, and returns a 429 response above that rate. ADC Check Bulk takes a list of people in one request. A higher limit can be requested through Global Data support with a description of the operational need.
